FIREFIGHTER RECRUITMENT
TOWN OF NARRAGANSETT FIRE DEPARTMENT

APPLICATION FOR ELIGIBILITY LIST / IMMEDIATE OPENINGS AVAILABLE

The Town of Narragansett is currently accepting applications for the establishment of an eligibility list for the position of Firefighter.  Immediate openings are available for qualified candidates.  Applicants must undergo a screening process, including written examination, oral interview, physical performance testing, psychological and drug screening prior to appointment. 

Active professional firefighters who apply are eligible to earn additional credits and incentives towards the hiring process.  Candidates who may have previously applied are encouraged to re-apply.  For more specifics on the hiring process, job description and conditions of employment reference the links to attached documents or visit our town website. 

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
• Between the ages of 18 and 35 years at time of hire.  
• Valid Driver’s License
• Valid RIAFC Entry Level Firefighter Written Exam by application deadline
• Valid RIAFC PPA certificate at the time of hire
• Valid RI EMT license upon appointment
• Valid RI Advanced EMT-Cardiac license at a minimum which must be obtained and maintained as a condition of continued employment as outlined within Local 1589 collective bargaining agreement

Work Schedule:

Full time employment. The current work schedule is based on an average annual workweek of 42 hours on an 8-day work cycle.  Typical shifts include: 1 day on (24 hours), 2 days off (48 hours), 1 day on (24 hours), followed by 4 days off (96 hours).  Depending on the situation, some firefighters work for extended periods before having time-off.
