FIREFIGHTER/AEMTC
This entry-level position includes firefighting and emergency medical service duties at the cardiac license level. Working various shifts you will be a member of a highly skilled team that delivers firefighting, rescue, emergency medical and other emergency and routine services to the community.
QUALIFICATIONS: FOR APPLICANTS
At the time of application, the following qualifications are required:
Have a High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Be at least 18 years of age.
Possess a valid Driver's License.
Must be a U.S. Citizen
Hold current licensure as an EMT Basic in the State of Rhode Island or a higher licensure.
Current certificate of the physical performance assessment (PPA) from the RI Association of Fire Chiefs within the past 12 months will be accepted.
Current certificate of completion of the written exam as issued by the RI Association of Fire Chiefs.
There is a non-refundable fee, payable at the time of application submittal.

Lateral Transfer/AEMTC
QUALIFICATIONS: FOR LATERAL TRANSFER
Have a High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Be at least 18 years of age.
Possess a valid Driver's License.
Must be a U.S. Citizen
Hold current licensure as an EMT Basic in the State of Rhode Island or a higher licensure.
Current certificate of the physical performance assessment (PPA) from the RI Association of Fire Chiefs within the past twelve (12) months will be accepted. Rhode Island, ProBoard, or IFSAC Firefighter 1001-Levels 1 and 2 certifications.
Current full-time professional firefighter with a minimum of 3 years completed and a graduate of the Rhode Island, or other recognized Municipal Fire Academy.
Training Requirements: Successfully complete a minimum eight (8) week, 40 hour per week, Monday through Friday Smithfield Fire Department Training Academy.
In addition, applicants:
Must present a current Rhode Island EMT - Advanced / Cardiac or EMT-Paramedic license at time of appointment.
Applicants must successfully complete:
Application for completeness and documentation of qualifications.
Each portion of a required battery of tests: Swim Test conducted by the Smithfield Fire Department.
Ladder climb conducted by the Smithfield Fire Department.
Fire department oral interview.
Interview with senior management.
Criminal and driving record screening – if offered employment.
Background investigation and reference check – if offered employment.
Psychological evaluation – if offered employment.
Pre-employment physical – if offered employment.
Previous Candidates must complete a new application.
